30th & 31st of July

The 30th and 31st of July are important days in our lives. 30 years ago in 1978, Steve and I had been dating for only 1 month but knew in our hearts that we were to be married and sealed together forever. On July 30, a Sunday, we decided to fast and pray together to make sure that was the right decision and part of Heavenly Father's plan for us. We received our confirmation and on July 31st we became officially engaged with, as Dr. Laura would say, "a ring and a date".

Well 2 years ago on July 30, also a Sunday, we were also fasting and praying about another eternal decision. We had decided to host an orphan from Ukraine and also had recieved answers to prayers that we should pursue adoption. We were to look at many photos to try to choose who we would host. We knew we needed Heavenly Fathers guidance in this important eternal decision. When we saw the pictures of available children, we were definitely guided on who was ours. So on July 31st we officially made the commitment to adopt Laina and began the process of getting "our dossier and date".

It's probably a good thing that Laina saw that picture of her mom and dad BEFORE she was adopted. LOL!! Your clothes are so...um, classy! :-)

Congrats to all of you on your milestones. As I read your blog, it’s amazing to see how you acknowledge the hand of God everywhere in your lives. That is notable! It’s pretty evident from your story how blessing flow more freely when simple credit is given where credit is due rather than complaining about things we don’t have. Kind of reminds me of the ‘Count Your Blessings’ hymn.

I can’t help but noticing how much of a ‘glow’ that Laina has to her in this picture. It would be interesting to see the very first picture you have of her (even if it is the one Nannette showed you way back when you first started on this journey) next to this picture. Kind of like a before and after.

Thanks for the great example!

Thanks Andreas & Carrie for the nice comment.

Let me inform you that I do my fair share of complaining! But Heavenly Father has definitely blessed us and I owe Him much more credit.

Actually the picture of Laina on this post is the first one we saw of her.
