Lauren had her 21st birthday, that means 4 of my 6 are officially 'adults'. She is a beautiful girl and I love her to death. She enjoys her job, even having to be there between 5:30-6:00 a.m., she's had to deal with some pretty nasty roommate issues and will be glad when her lease is up in January and can move on. She's a big football fan - Dallas Cowboys and is going to Denver this weekend for the big game! Lucky girl, got free tickets on the 20 yd line 20th row. She is so excited and really deserves a vacation. Here's a picture of my 'middle children' on her birthday.
It was Homecoming at the high school and Lexi and Laina both went. It was Laina's 'first date'. A few days before I was telling her about boutonnieres and corsages (new vocabulary words)and thought I'd better explain a few things about dating etiquette. Explaining that dating was different than 'hanging out' and that Xavi was paying for everything and that she should stay with him and not run off. She got so defensive and said "I know, why do you think I would do that?". I said I didn't say you were going too, but that in having 5 other children gone through the dating that I know it happens...she continued to be defensive, she knows everything and I was in a tired and stressed mood so I just gave up trying to tell her more about dating. (Since she knew it all :), but remember she didn't know about flowers). So the time comes for her date to show up. He was very polite and wanted to make sure everything was just right for her. They exchange flowers, pose for pictures, all is good. They walk out the door, Laina is 10 feet ahead of him, walks to the car, opens the door and climbs in. His parents are driving, dropping them off at the limo pick up spot. The mom says "Laina, you are supposed to let Xavi open the door for you." So I guess she doesn't know as much as she thinks she does.
Lexi's date on the other hand needs to learn some proper etiquette. He pulls up and Lexi says "mom don't look at him out the window." (I'm standing in the other room, he can't see me.) I said he's not even looking, he's talking on the phone. Well he awas actually calling Lex and wanting her to just come out to the car. She said "ahh my mom wants to take pictures so you will need to come in." He forgot to bring in the coursage, so goes back out to get it. It wasn't her funnest date ever, she was kind of dreading it. and I'm sure she didn't stay by her date all the time, even if he was paying. I try. :)
Last week at Parent Teacher Conferences, 3 of Laina's teachers, English, Biology and Geometery had no idea she was from Ukraine and had only been here for 2 1/2 years. She's loving high school, teachers say she is quite chatty but love her and so does everyone else.
The grandkiddies are the best ever, Love them to death! I love it when they see me and light up with a big grin!

Sweet post! The time is flying. I always think it will slow down...later and later is just busier!
Are you helping with the hosting program this year? I offered but haven't heard anything. I will be out of town Oct 25-29 so maybe I'm no help at all?
Have a great day!
